The Telangana High Court (HC) on the 10th of May, reviewed the current situation of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Telangana. During the hearing, the High Court bench lashed out at the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government for mishandling the situation.

In the urgent court hearing, the HC bench comprising Chief Justice Hima kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy, questioned the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government over the COVID-19 restrictions, beds and lockdown decision. The Court said, “How can CS (Chief Secretary) say that there is no need for a lockdown, at the press meet on the day we gave the orders. Do you want to lock down after Ramadan?” The Court also criticised the TRS Government for disobeying the High Court orders regarding COVID-19 tests. The court questioned why the Telangana Medical Department is decreasing the daily COVID-19 tests. Acting upon the same, the Court said, if the State Government would not increase the number of tests, it would issue notice against the KCR Government. Moving ahead with the proceedings, the Court also asked why ambulances are being blocked at the state borders. Recently, the State Police blocked ambulances carrying COVID-19 patients from Andhra Pradesh.

Besides questioning the State Government, the HC bench also grilled the representatives of the Telangana Police, V.C. Sajjanar, Mahesh Bhagwat and Anajani kumar, CPs of Cyberabad, Hyderabad and Rachakonda, respectively. The HC said, “Put your heads together” and let the Court know how they were planning to check the spread of COVID-19.” The Court also directed three Police Commissioners and Public Health Director G. Srinivasa Rao to be ready with a plan of action.

With this, the Court adjourned the hearing to 2:30 P.M., and asked the TRS Government to submit full details of the situation.

The court proceedings which resumed at 2:30 P.M., is underway virtually.
