Model and anchor Sonika Chauhan, was killed in a car accident in April. In connection to this actor Vikram Chatterjee is facing multiple culpable homicide charges. He was taken into custody on Friday morning in Kolkata.

Chatterjee was earlier charged for rash and negligent driving for which punishment is two years. The recent charges of culpable homicide, under Indian Penal Code 304, will be punishable with 10 years in jail. The police said they have collected ‘enough evidence’ against the actor.

At 3:30 A.M., on April 29, Chatterjee, who is also a TV actor was driving Chauhan home when the car hit the pavement and flipped. The duo were photographed at multiple parties that night and was seen holding alcoholic beverages in the pictures.

The actor rubbished these accusations and said that he was not drunk. However, he later admitted that he consumed some alcohol. Though there has been no recorded proof, the car was said to be traveling at high speed.

The case also had political elements when the opposition of West Bengal claimed that the ruling party is protecting the accused with the help of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This is as the accused is a lead actor in a popular television show.
