Standup comedian Munawar Faruqui again made headlines, over his performance in Hyderabad.
However, the scheduled show of Munawar Faruqui on the 9th of January, gained criticism and protest from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana Unit. On the 24th of December, Friday, Mr. Dharmapuri Arvind, a BJP leader in Telangana, said he and his party would not let this show happen in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Warning the State Government led by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) Mr. Dharampuri Arvind said, “KTR, are you a human being? That Munawar Faruqui makes jokes on Goddess Sita and his shows were banned in Karnataka. He calls that guy to Telangana for a comedy show. That means this father-son duo (Chief minister KCR and KTR) thinks Hindu society is comedic. We’ll see how they bring him here.”
The dig against the Information Technology and Urban Development Minister was taken after Mr. K.T. Rama Rao invited Munawar Faruqui to Hyderabad. In a statement, KTR said, “We don’t cancel shows of Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra just because we are not aligned with them politically.”
The statement of KTR was after 12 shows of Munawar Faruqui were canceled in Bengaluru, due to public and BJP leaders’ protest.
Meanwhile, days after the open invitation, the stand up comedian was invited to perform in Hyderabad and he announced the same through Instagram.
Mr. K.T. Rama Rao and the TRS Government are yet to respond to the warnings of the BJP leader Mr. Dharmapuri Arvind.
