Mallu overnight sensation Priya Varrier’s facial expressions paved the way for the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi to become a hit. But some are not obsessing over the actress’ wink but instead filed a complaint against the lyrics of the song.
A complaint was filed by a Hyderabad resident at the Falaknuma Police Station in Hyderabad. The complaint mentions nothing about the actors in the film but states the lyrics of the song hurts their religious sentiments.
The Director of the film Omar Lulu clarified the lyrics of the song and said, “There is nothing against Islam or Muslims. It is a very old love song sung by all communities.” Lulu is right, this song is more than 20 years old written by P.M.A. Jabbar.
The song is considered a Muslim folklore song which is sung by many in the Malayalam Muslim community. Jabbar explained he wrote the song while thinking of a girl who winked at him years ago. The song basically describes a woman who resembles a pearl flower.
The police at the Falaknuma Station are yet to file an FIR. The authorities at the Police Station explained they will first look into the matter before filling an FIR.
