Raveena Tandon is making a comeback to the silver screen with a sensitive subject of rape in “Maatr.” The trailer that came out on Thursday afternoon depicts the tale of a mother who, against all odds, family pressures and societal values, sets out to avenge her daughter’s death.
The heart wrenching story is set in Delhi, which has been infamously dubbed as the ‘Rape Capital of India.’ It tracks the story of Vidya, played by Raveena Tandon, who is mourning her daughter Tia’s rape and murder. The police and judicial system show a careless attitude in the case which leaves Vidya devastated. The rest of the trailer tracks how Vidya, without the support of her husband or the police, takes her revenge and punishes the culprits.
Directed by Ashtar Sayed and written by Michael Pellico, “Maatr” brings to light yet once more the sensitive subject of increasing rapes in Delhi as well as the Country. It also throws light on how the police and the judiciary fail to address 94% of the 38,960 rapes that happen every year in India, out of which only 6% are reported.
The end credit of the trailer is set to send chills down your spine with the statement, “While you were watching the trailer, a girl was raped somewhere in the Country. Time to think. Time to act.” Releasing on April 21, 2017, “Maatr” is one movie to watch.
