Vicky Kaushal of Uri: The Surgical Strike fame will soon play the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the 1971 war hero, in his upcoming film, Sam.
Sam is a biographical movie based on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who was the Chief of the Indian Army in 1971 and fought the Bangladesh Liberation War against Pakistan.
The official announcement about the collaboration between Meghna Gulzar and Vicky Kaushal was made on the 27th of June, which is also the 11th death anniversary of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw died on the 27th of June 2008 due to pneumonia, at a military hospital in Wellington, Tamil Nadu.
Meghna Gulzar, the director of Sam, said, “This film has been brewing between RSVP and me, for some time now. With Vicky now coming on board to play Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, it has begun to simmer. Looking forward to things to come to fruition one step at a time.”
This is not the first time Kaushal and Ms. Gulzar are collaborating. Previously, the duo came together for the widely acclaimed movie, Raazi.
In Raazi, Vicky Kaushal played the character of Iqbal, a Pakistani Army Officer and the husband of Sehmat (Alia Bhatt,) an Indian spy.
Expressing his happiness about his new project, Vicky said, “It’s an absolute honour for me to be getting the opportunity to portray the life of Sam Manekshaw. Reuniting with Ronnie (Ronnie Screwvala) and Meghna feels like home because of the tremendous comfort level we share. We are thrilled to bring forward the story of this fearless patriot and the first Field Marshal of India.”
