Adhir Ranjan, a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) from West Bengal, was declared the new Parliamentary Chief of the INC in the Lok Sabha.

On the 19th of June, Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA,) announced Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the Parliamentary Chief of the INC.

The discussion regarding the appointment of Mr. Ranjan was going on as Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress, turned down the proposal.

On the 18th of June, Ms. Gandhi conducted several meetings with the senior leaders of the INC and the leaders of the UPA to chalk down the strategies of the INC in the Lok Sabha.

During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi also decided the name of the new Parliamentary Chief.

On the 19th of June, during the ongoing session of the 17th Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi named Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the Parliamentary Chief.

Mr. Ranjan is a 5 time Member of Parliament (MP) of the Lok Sabha and the sitting MP of the Berhampore constituency of Murshidabad district in West Bengal.

Ranjan also served as the Junior Railway Minister during the rule of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government in India.

The session of the 17th Lok Sabha started from the 17th of June and will continue till the 26th of July.
