Danam Nagender joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Sunday after quitting the Congress party. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao welcomed Danam into the TRS Party with his supporters.
The event was held on Sunday at the Telangana Bhavan which is the TRS office. On Friday, Danam quit the Congress party after accusing them of ignoring the Backward Classes.
The ex Khairtabad MLA said in his resignation, “In the recent times, I have tried my best to explain to the party high command both at the State and Centre, the changing political scenario in Telangana State with particular reference to the welfare of the backward class communities (BCs) which comprise more than 50% of the populace. All my appeals have fallen on deaf ears.”
Congress treasurer Guduru Narayan Reddy attacked Danam and denied the allegations. Mr. Reddy stated Danam never cared for the backward classes and only about his ranking.
Reddy was quoted saying, “Danam is known for opportunistic politics. He joined TDP when it was ruling AP. He returned to the Congress after YSR became the CM in 2004. Danam shifts to whichever party is in power. He will come to Congress if it wins in 2019.”
Last week Danam’s resignation was a huge blow to the already sulking Telangana Congress. Party President Rahul Gandhi and PCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy received Nagender’s resignation.
There are speculations that Danam will join the ruling Telangana Rashtriya Party (TRS) tomorrow. Danam was disappointed with the Congress party for not considering him for the party chief’s post in Hyderabad. Since then Danam has been sending subtle hints about joining TRS. The idea of Danam joining TRS comes after he visited KCR a while back.
This is not the first time Danam is speculated to join the TRS. Back in 2015 Danam confirmed he received an invitation to join TRS but rejected the offer. Danam then stated his loyalty always lies with Congress.
In 1994, Danam was first elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. He went on to win the same position in 1999, 2004 and 2009. Sadly in 2014 Daman suffered a huge defeat in the hands of the BJP leader Ramachandra Reddy.
Since 2014, Danam has stirred clear of the party’s affairs in Hyderabad. He even refused to campaign for the Congress in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.
