The Muzaffarpur Police, on the, 12th of February, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the director, producer and the lead actors of the movie, The Accidental Prime Minister. The movie was released, on the 11th of January 2019.

Directed by Vijay Gutte, The Accidental Prime Minister is based on a book written by Sanjaya Baru, the personal media advisor of Manmohan Singh during his tenure as the Prime Minister of India.

Anupam Kher is the lead of the movie and played the role of Manmohan Singh, whereas Akshay Khanna played the role of Sanjaya Baru. The other star cast of the movie are Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi and Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi.

Sudhir Kumar Ojha, an advocate, on the 8th of January, filed a petition against the movie, following which the Bihar Court ordered the Muzaffarpur Police to file a case against the director and the star cast of The Accidental Prime Minister. Mr. Ojha filed a petition, according to which, the movie showcased former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and others in a bad light.

This is not the first time Mr. Ojha has sued an artistic work. Between 2007 and 2019, Sudhir Kumar Ojha filed approximately 480 lawsuits against various Bollywood celebrities.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, Ojha targeted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and many more celebrities of Bollywood.

Speaking about the reason behind taking such an action, Mr. Ojha said, “To help the needy people through thought law. Due to this thinking, he spent half of his earnings on public interest litigation.” He also mentioned, “I am content that I am doing something for the society. Most of the people’s work was done after complaints. This has helped the common people. Ojha tried to intervene in court against corruption, only after prosecuting the corruption, against the social maladies.”

Sudhir Kumar Ojha, on the 4th of February, moved the court of Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate Saba Alam and reported, the Kanti Police Station did not lodge any FIR, even after the court’s orders.

On the 13th of February, Mr. Ojha addressed the media and said, “On this, the court issued show cause notice to Kanti Police Station through the Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police after which police lodged an FIR yesterday (Tuesday.)”

Manoj Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police, said, he ordered the police to file the case after the Court’s orders.

The Muzaffarpur police station charged all the actors and the director and producer of the movie under Sections 295, 153, 153A, 293, 504, 506, 120B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.) All these sections of the IPC deal with the insult of religious beliefs, attacking religion, race, place of birth, residence and language, etc.
