Yesterday, the Pakistan Government allowed the mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav to travel to Pakistan to meet the alleged Intelligence agent. Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Faisal tweeted before Jadhav’s family arrived, “Pakistan permits the meeting of wife and mother of Commander Jadhav with him, as a humanitarian gesture, on the birthday of the Father of the nation, Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.”
After the family reached Pakistan, Dr. Faisal said, “The mother and wife of Commander Jadhav sitting comfortably in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan. We honor our commitments.”
Soon after, the Foreign Office Spokesperson released pictures of the ‘meeting’ on twitter. In the pictures, Jadhav seems weary and tired in an oversized blue suit speaking to his mother and wife. Jadhav was separated by a glass wall and had to speak through a telephone.
The meeting began around 2:18 P.M., yesterday and went on for at least 40 minutes. Dr. Faisal tweeted, “Indian diplomats, including Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh, accompanied Jadhav’s family and were present during the meeting, which was conducted in a specially prepared room via an intercom through a glass partition.”
Many have condemned this meeting and Pakistan stating the meeting was not on a humanitarian basis. Jadhav is accused of undertaking a counterintelligence operation in Balochistan from where he was arrested. Jadhav confessed on camera explaining he was an Indian Navy Officer working for the Indian Intelligence Agency. He has been sentenced to hang for his alleged crimes.
