Meet The Indian Americans in Donald Trump’s Administration

A number of Indians have decided to settle in the United States for various reasons. Many of them have reached exceptional heights and others have joined Donald Trump’s Administration. Here is a list of all the Indian American’s that found their way to Trump’s Administration.

1. Nikki Haley: She was the first non-white woman to bag a senior position in Trump’s cabinet as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. She initially was against Trump as she supported Marco Rubio and was quoted saying, “Some people think that you have to be the loudest voice in the room to make a difference [but] that is just not true. Often, the best thing we can do is turn down the volume.” It’s not rocket science to figure out who she was referring to. Nikki was born as Nimrata Randhawa a daughter of immigrants from Punjab who moved to South Carolina in 1969.

2. Neil Chatterjee: In May 2017, Donald Trump nominated Chatterjee to the Federal Energy Commission. Chatterjee was initially the energy policy advisor to U.S., Senator Mitch McConnell. He has also worked as a Principal in Government Relations for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Neil Chatterjee is a Law graduate from St. Lawrence University and the University of Cincinnati.

3. Manisha Singh: President Trump decided to nominated Manisha Singh as the Assistant Secretary Of State For Economic Affairs. Singh has a license to practice law in Pennsylvania, Florida and the District of Columbia. Manisha’s parents moved to Florida from Uttar Pradesh when Manisha was a girl. She had earlier served as the deputy assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Economic, Business Affairs, and Energy.

4. Krishna R. Urs: In June 2017, President Trump decided on Krishna Urs as the United States Ambassador to Peru. His family moved to Connecticut where he was born. He graduated with a degree in foreign services from Georgetown University. Earlier, Urs was a career diplomat for America since 1986. Urs has also worked in the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Latin America and Caribbean affairs.

5. Neomi Rao: Initially Neomi Rao was a professor and the founding director of the Centre of Law at George Mason University. During the presidency of George W. Bush, she played the role of the Associate Counsel. In April 2017, Trump Nominated Neomi as the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the Office of Management and Budget.

6. Raj Shah: Raj Shah is considered one among three of the most powerful people in Trump’s administration. He plays a key role in the communications department for Trump. Earlier, he was the deputy assistant to the president and deputy communications director. His position makes him the senior most Indian America right after Nikki Haley in the Trump White House.

7. Seema Verma: Verma graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in life sciences. She also received a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She has initially worked as the vice president for Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County along with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. At present, she is the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Trump has applauded her for her work towards dismantling Obamacare.

8. Vishal Amin: Amin is a graduate in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and a degree in law from Washington University. He was previously a Senior Counsel on House Judiciary Committee and later appointed as the  Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator. Vishal earlier served as the associate director for domestic policy at the white house.

9. Ajit Varadaraj Pai: Trump appointed Ajit Pai as the Chairman for U.S., Federal Communications Commission making him the first Indian American to hold the post. Earlier, Pai played a role in the Department of Justice, the United States Senate and Verizon Communications. Pai holds a JD from the University of Chicago and is a graduate of Arts from Harvard University.
