Two hundred and thirty nine scientists of 39 countries suggested the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection to be an airborne virus.

According to scientific research, the infection is in smaller particles in the air, which could infect people.

The scientists said, the Coronavirus infection is carried by large droplets that zoom through the air after a sneeze, or by much smaller exhaled droplets, which could infect people through air when inhaled.

The new research contrasts to the recommendations of the WHO, which said the Coronavirus disease spreads primarily from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, which are expelled when a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes or speaks.

They said  evidence proves the presence of the virus in the air and asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to revise recommendations.

The New York Times reported the same on the 4th of July.

According to the published news, scientists and researchers also wrote an open letter to the health agency, the WHO, regarding the same.

The scientists are also likely to publish about the Novel Coronavirus being an airborne disease in a scientific journal this week.

In response to this, Dr. Benedetta Allegranzi, the Technical Lead of Infection Prevention and Control department of the WHO said, “Especially in the last couple of months, we have been stating several times that we consider airborne transmission as possible but certainly not supported by solid or even clear evidence.”

The WHO further said, evidence presented by the researchers and scientists are not convincing to revise recommendations issued earlier.

Meanwhile, the Novel Coronavirus is infecting people rapidly as the number of cases are increasing massively worldwide.

Till the 6th of July, the virus infected 11,562,873 people and killed 5,36,84 globally.

Stay tuned for further updates.
