Sushma Swaraj Delivers Speech On Kulbhushan Jadhav In The Rajya Sabha

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj delivered her statement at the Rajya Sabha. She spoke about the details of Kulbhushan Jadhav’s meeting in Pakistan.

Swaraj condemned Pakistan and termed the meeting as propaganda by the neighbour Country. The external affairs listed out the several occasions Jadhav’s wife and mother were subjected to unreasonable behaviour.

Sushma Swaraj said Jadhav’s mother was forced to remove her mangal sutra and vermillion. This led to Kulbhushan assuming the worst about the father of his father. Swaraj said, “Not just his wife, but the bindi and mangal sutra of his mother were also removed. When I spoke to her, she told me that as soon as she reached, Kulbhushan asked her ‘Baba kaise hain?’ (How is father?) because he thought a mishap had taken place when he wasn’t around.”

The Minister said the officials in Pakistan created an environment of fear for Jadhav’s wife and mother. “Jadhav Ji’s mother, who only wears a saree, was forced to wear salwar-kurta. Bindi, bangles and mangalsutras of both women were removed. Both the married women were made to like widows,” Swaraj was quoted saying.

Kulbhushan and his family were not allowed to speak in their mother tongue, which is Marathi. The officials constantly interrupted them when they spoke in Marathi.

Sushma Swaraj emotionally said, “Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother was not allowed to speak in Marathi. Two Pakistani officials present in the meeting kept stopping her repeatedly, and when she continued, the intercom was switched off.”

In a rare moment at the Rajya Sabha, the ruling and opposition parties agreed on something. Opposition Leader of Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad condemned the behaviour of Pakistan. He was quoted saying, “Misbehaviour of Pakistan with the wife and mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav was misbehaviour with all Indians. Regardless of political differences, when it comes to nation’s dignity and another country misbehaves with our mothers and sisters, it will not be tolerated.”

Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother and wife were permitted to meet Jadhav who is imprisoned in Pakistan. Jadhav is being accused of espionage and is sentenced to hang.
