UN Security Council Conducts 1st Meeting On COVID-19

The United Nation (UN) Security Council, on the 9th of April, conducted a meeting over the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Today’s meeting was the first one after the COVID-19 broke out in the world infecting 1,535,835 people and claiming 89,873 lives till date.

Due to the issues between China and the United States of America (U.S.A.,) the meeting did not take place.  

The meeting was organised to discuss the pandemic situation, announced by the World Health Organisation (WHO.)

The meeting was said to be a close door meeting on the request of e Germany, a member of the UN Security Council.  The meeting was conducted in a video conference manner to avoid personal contact, following social distancing strictly.

The meeting was led by the German diplomats, one of the non permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The major topic of the pandemic situation’s discussion was the united action of all the nations to fight the COVID-19 illness and curb the impact of COVID-19.  Besides, the second proposal during the meeting was to focuses on Guterres’s call last month to cease all hostilities around the world as part of a humanitarian pause to fight the pandemic.  The second proposal was the call of France, a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

There are 10 non permanent members of the UN Security Council and 5 permanent members.   The 10 members include Germany, Indonesia, Kuwait, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Dominican Republic,  Côte d’Ivoire, Belgium and Equatorial Guinea.  The 5 permanent members are China, U.S.A., the United Kingdom, Russian Federation and France.
