The Special PLMA Court, on the 4th of April, Monday, extended the judicial custody of the National Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik.
During a hearing, the court extended judicial custody of the Maharashtra Minister Mr. Nawab Malik to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) till the 18th of April. It is to be noted, the Nawab Malik has been accused in a money laundering case and connection with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. He has been under the judicial custody since March 2022. Although Mr. Malik earlier had approached the Supreme Court challenging an order passed by the Bombay High Court rejecting his plea, the matter is pending with the Apex Court.
Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi Government led by the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the Indian National Congress (INC) temporarily removed Mr. Malik from Cabinet Ministry. The decision was to avoid delay in performing duties as minister is under judicial custody. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which accused the NCP leader, has demanded his resignation and permanent dismissal of Mr. Nawab Malik, amid money laundering allegations.
As of now, the ED is investigating the matter of Nawab Malik, his money laundering allegations and connection with Dawood Ibrahim.
