Chandramukhi Muvvala, a transgender activist contesting the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections for the Goshamahal constituency, Hyderabad, went missing, on Tuesday.

Chandramukhi’s friends filed a complaint at the Banjara Hills Police Station. The report said, she went missing around 8:25 A.M., and her phone was switched off. She went to meet her mother, on Monday night and since Tuesday morning, her phone is unreachable. The members of the Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti (THITS) fear it to be a case of kidnapping.

R. Govinda Reddy, Inspector, Banjara Hills Police Station, said, “Following the complaint, a missing case has been registered.”

The THITS issued a press release stating, “We fear for her safety and condemn the lack of safety measures organised for her and for other women and transgender candidates, which acts as a strong force that dissuades transgender persons and women from joining politics. Chandramukhi’s campaign kicked off just one day before she went missing.”

The police launched a search operation to find Chandramukhi. However, updates regarding the same are yet to be announced.

Chandramukhi Muvvala, 32 years old, was a member of the Bahujan Left Front (BFL.) Chandramukhi got a ticket for the Goshamahal constituency, against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Raja Singh and the Congress’s Mukesh Goud.

The Telangana elections for 119 Assembly seats are scheduled on the 7th of December and the results will be declared on the 11th of December.
