For working individuals, driving under the influence might cost them their jobs. The police will be sending an e-mail to the employers with the details of driving under the influence and a warning. It will leave a red mark on the appraisal sheet. In the past, over a hundred employees were notified but this year the Hyderabad Police plans a stricter action against the accused.

The DUI will also lead to litigations in the passport verification and visa approval. The police are planning to share the criminal records of all the individuals with DUI to the consulates. This notification was released by A.V. Ranganath, DCP, Hyderabad Traffic Police. He also said that they are planning to setup 100 checkpoints in the city leaving no loops for the drunken drivers to escape. There are also a lot of measures being taken to control the traffic. After 11:00 P.M., on New Year’s eve till 2 hours past midnight traffic will not be allowed on the NTR Marg, Necklace Road, and Upper Tankbund areas. Also, all the flyovers will be closed after 11:00 P.M. Heavy vehicles, trucks and travel buses will not be allowed into the city after midnight.

Ranganath said that “At least 80% of those caught are first-timers, who assume they would not be caught during checks.”
A total of 7,700 DUI have been issued in the city after 2011. In 2016 more than 1,500 were imprisoned for driving under the influence. These attempts by the Hyderabad Police are an effort to reduce the cases of drunken driving in the city and accidents because of that.
