Initially, Abhinandan used to mean ‘congratulations,’ but now the meaning will change, said Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.
On the 2nd of March, PM Modi addressed a Construction Technology Indian event and said, “India has the ability to change the meaning of words. Abhinandan was till now ‘ Congratulations’ in English, now the meaning will change.” He further said, “The world will notice whatever India does.”
The comments of PM Modi came after Abhinandan Varthaman, a Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force (IAF,) returned safe from Pakistan, on the 1st of March.
On the 27th of February, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down a fighter jet, MiG 21, being piloted by Wg Cdr Varthanam. They then captured him and handed him over to the Pakistan Government.
Later, on the 28th of February, Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, announced, he will send Wg Cdr Varthaman back to India as a gesture of peace.
However, the real motive behind the Pakistan Government is said to be international pressure from countries like the United States, the United Kingdom and China.
The decision of Imran Khan came after the Indian Government announced to corner Pakistan in international communities and also took away the status of the Most Favoured Nation (MFN.)
The changed meaning of Abhinandan will stand as a symbol of strength and power of India.
