The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, on the 18th of January, announced Mr. Bhagwant Mann as the “CM Face” in Punjab.

According to sources, the decision was based on people’s choice through televote. Recently, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister announced a WhatsApp number, asking people to vote and suggest their chosen CM Candidate in Punjab. After the polls, at least 93% people voted for Mr. Bhagwant Mann and 3% votes were for Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu, a member of the Indian National Congress (INC.)  The remaining votes were given to Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, which were counted as invalid.  Therefore, based on people’s choice, the AAP President announced Mr. Bhagwant Mann as the CM Candidate from the party.

The announcement was made during a public meeting, held at 12 noon, on the 18th of January, Tuesday, in Mohali, Punjab.  After the announcement, Mr. kejriwal said, “In a way the person choses as the next Chief Minister Candidate will be the next Chief Minister of Punjab.”

Meanwhile, the Punjab Assembly elections for 117 seats are scheduled to be held in a single phase on the 20th of February. In addition, chances of AAP winning the election is 50-50, as in the 2017 election, the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP was the second largest party with 20 seats, after the INC which secured 77 seats. In addition, the Shiromani Akali Dal secured 15 seats and the BJP managed only 3 seats in Punjab.

This year, with the resignation of Mr. Amarinder Singh, the dynamic of the Punjab Politics has changed. In addition, the new political party of Mr. Singh, along with an alliance with the BJP, could be a game changer for the other parties in the State.

The results of the Punjab Assembly elections would be announced on the 20th of February.
