On Monday, Hyderabad experienced a heavy rainfall that went on for several hours. The rain left many areas in the city flooded.

The heavy rain that started in a few areas on Monday afternoon continued till late in the night. A few other areas have seen having heavy showers on Tuesday morning.

Officials reported that Monday rains were measured at 41.8mm. This was the highest seen during this monsoon season.

The reason for heavy rains is due to the increased intensity of the Southwest monsoon.

Director of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Y. K. Reddy reported to a news channel, “The city will continue to witness heavy rain for the next 48 hours. These rains will help bridge the rainfall deficit in Hyderabad since the start of July.”

Areas like Begumpet, Malakpet Crossroads, General Bazar, Devinagar in Neredmet, Amberpet Bridge, Mehdipatnam, Panjagutta, Secunderabad and Ragavendranagar were subjected to horrible traffic due to water logging.

Monday’s showers managed to fill the full tank of Hussainsagar.

Like every other monsoon the strong winds knocked over trees that yanked the power cables resulted in a lot of power cuts in the city.

The IMD has issued a two day alert as studies show the rain will continue till Wednesday evening.

The warning sent by IMD read, “Heavy to very heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana.”

It went on to say, “A well marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists. It is very likely to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours. The trough on Sea Level Chart now runs from Odisha to south Tamilnadu across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.”

Skymet Weather reported that in the span of 24 hours Hyderabad’s maximum temperature went up to 29 degree Celsius and minimum was recorded at 22 degree Celsius.
