Numaish, Hyderabad’s iconic annual exhibition, will celebrate its 79th edition in 2019. Numaish, or the All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE,) originally known as Numaish Masnuaat e Mulki, is all set to start from the 1st of January, 2019.

Numaish, which is nothing short of a grand celebration for the citizens of Hyderabad, will be organised at the 23 acres’ Public Grounds in Nampally.

The 45 days long exhibition, which was first set up in the year 1938, is the oldest exhibition organised annually in the City. The event, which is famous in Hyderabad, started with a setup of 15 stalls for 10 days.

Sir Akbar Hydari, the then Prime Minister of Hyderabad, approved the proposal for the event set forth by the Economic Committee of the Osmania Graduates Association. The first edition of Numaish, which was inaugurated by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, was organised with a mere budget of Rs. 2.50.

The word Numaish in Urdu means a spectacle or a sight, which aptly defines this exhibition which showcases unique architectural works, textiles, handicrafts and mouthwatering food. From local to special food items like mutton haleem and cotton candy, rides like giant wheel and rollercoaster, or textiles like salwar kameez to Kashmiri carpets, Numaish offers a plethora of options for you to choose.

The stalls at this renowned exhibition will have numerous collections of textiles, ranging from woollen items from Kashmir, to Chikan work dresses from Lucknow and jootis from Rajasthan, to name a few. Apart from textiles, furniture from Chennapatnam, dry fruits from Afghanistan and handicrafts are also some of the items which sell like hotcakes at Numaish.

For Hyderabadis, Numaish is more than a fair and despite of the crowd and the messy environment, people love to spend their weekends hopping from one stall to another. In 2018, Numaish had over 2,600 stalls from across India and the world over and this year, more than 2,300 stalls are expected to be set up.

The special attraction at Numaish 2019 will be a 25 feet tall replica of Eiffel Tower at the Goshamahal Gate (Gate 3.) Other than the famous monument’s replica, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi meditating, on a marble platform, will also be a highlight of this year’s edition.

G.V. Ranga Reddy, the Secretary of the Exhibition Society, spoke about the Metro facilities for the visitors and said, “The last year we witnessed 22 lakh footfalls and as we have linked up with the Hyderabad Metro Rail this year, we are expecting increase in number of visitors to 26 lakh visitors in this season.”

As a part of the security at Numaish, last year, the authorities installed 32 CCTV cameras, sniffer dogs and as many as 400 personnel and police officials from various departments.

The New Year in Hyderabad will be celebrated with the start of Numaish. Plan your weekend and experience the spectacle that is Numaish.
