The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) analysed the current chief ministers self sworn in affidavits. It found 11 of the chief ministers in India have criminal cases against them while 25 of them are crorepatis. On Monday the ADR released the report after looking through the latest affidavits filed by the chief ministers just before contesting for the elections.
The report read, “Out of the all 31 chief ministers analysed from state assemblies and Union territories, 11 chief ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves.” Out of the 31 chief minister 20 have serious criminal cases against them.
A total of 25 chief ministers are crorepatis while two of these ministers have assets worth Rs. 100 crores. The richest chief minister in India, with assets worth Rs. 177 crores is Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu. The second spot is given to Pema Khandu from Arunachal Pradesh and the third spot goes to Punjab’s Amarinder Singh. The chief minister with the lowest assets worth Rs. 27 lakh is Manik Sarkar from Tripura. West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee comes in second last with Rs. 30 lakh worth assets.
The ADR also gave the educational qualifications of the chief ministers. About 10% of 31 chief ministers are 12th pass, 16% are post graduates, 39% are graduates, 32% are graduate professionals and 3% have doctorates.
