Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM,) on the 14th of October, criticised Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC.)
Mr. Owaisi took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for leaving the INC when the Party needed its President. He said, “When a ship sinks in the middle of a sea, the captain evacuates everyone safely but Gandhi is a captain who himself left after seeing the Congress sinking. Muslims are not alive due to Congress’ mercy on us for 70 years, rather we are alive because of the Constitution and by the grace of God.”
The comments were made during an election campaign for Maharashtra Assembly elections 2019. On the 14th of October, Owaisi addressed the public and campaigned for a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidate of the AIMIM in Bhiwadi West, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its Government for introducing Triple Talaq Act, 2019. He said, “The Triple Talaq law is against all the Muslim women. BJP is a long lasting government which means that this darkness is going to last long.”
Owaisi said the BJP should provide reservation to the Muslims as well, the way they did to the Marathas.
Mr. Owaisi is conducting several campaigns and public rallies in support of the MLA candidates of the AIMIM contesting the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on the 21st of October for 288 seats. The results of the elections will be announced on the 24th of October.
The major parties contesting the Maharashtra Assembly elections are the INC, the BJP and the Shiv Sena.
