B.S. Yediyurappa, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, on the 29th of July, won the floor test by a voice vote in the Karnataka Assembly.

K.R. Ramesh Kumar declared the result of the motion passed by voice vote, as the opposition, the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S,]) did not vote.

By winning the no confidence motion, Mr. Yediyurappa can form the new Government of Karnataka under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Yediyurappa said, “I welcome comments on my government. If you have any issue please call me right away and tell me that this is wrong. We’ll work to get it right. Every minute I will try to work for development. I won’t break your trust. I request you to support me (sic.)”

The INC and the JD(S) opposed the new Government of the BJP and claimed the BJP Government is unstable as they are supporting the rebel Members of the Legislative Assembly.

Siddaramaiah, a senior leader of the INC, said, “Unfortunately, Yediyurappa has never been CM with people’s mandate. Where’s the mandate? You didn’t have it in 2008, 2018 or even now. When he took an oath there were 222 MLAs in House, where did BJP have 112 MLAs for the majority? They had 105 seats. That is not a mandate. We hope you (BS Yediyurappa) will be the chief minister but there is no guarantee of that. You are with the rebels, can you give a stable government? It’s impossible! I oppose this confidence motion because the reason is this government is unconstitutional and immoral.”

However, Siddaramaiah wished B.S. Yediyurappa and the BJP Government well for the new Government and said he hopes Yediyurappa will do well in the State.

On the other hand, the rebel MLAs who were disqualified by Ramesh Kumar moved the Supreme Court and filed a petition against Kumar and his decision.

Stay tuned for further updates.
