The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a massive pan India raid at 56 locations in 19 states and one Union Territory in connection with the circulation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online cases.

The pan India raid was operated as part of Operation ‘Megha Chakra,’ on the 24th of September, Saturday, to crack down on child pornography in India.

A CBI source, who wished to be anonymous said, “CBI searches are underway at 56 locations in 20 states and UTs in online child sexual exploitation material (CSEM) case. The searches are based on the inputs shared by the Interpol unit of New Zealand through Singapore.”

According to sources, the massive searches were carried out after the CBI received inputs from Interpol Singapore and intelligence obtained during last year’s Operation Carbon.  In 2021, the CBI conducted ‘Operation Carbon’ against peddlers of the CSAM on the Internet using cloud storage, used to share audio visuals of illicit sexual activities with minors.

Notably, the CBI is the first investigative agency to set up a cyber crime unit, which has hit the CSAM peddlers across India.

Moreover, the searches are underway and details are awaited.
