Many Members of Parliament (MPs) self quarantined themselves, on the 21st of March.
After the Bollywood Singer Kanika Kapoor, was announced to be positive for Novel Coronavirus, many politicians and celebrities who were in contact with her decided to self isolate themselves.
Ms. Kanika who came back to India from London in the past week, tested positive on the 20th of March. Despite getting medical treatment and the COVID-19 test, Kanika Kapoor hosted a lavish party and attended 3 events in Lucknow. The events were attended by 300 VIPs, politicians and celebrities.
MP Dushyant Singh and Vasundhra Raje, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and the National Vice President (VP) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided to self quarantine themselves as a precautionary measure. The decision to the same came after the duo were also at the event attended by Kanika Kapoor in Lucknow.
Dushyant Singh took to his Twitter handle and announced his self isolation as a precautionary measure from the 21st of March. MPs are in panic after Dushyant Singha and Vasundhra Raje broke the news of their self isolation. According to sources, after attending Kanika Kapoor’s Party, Dushyant Singh held several meetings with union ministers and industrialists. Derek O’Brien and Anupriya Patil who claimed to have contact with Dushyant Singh also decided to be self quarantines and announced the same.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Prakash the District Magistrate, ordered the closure of the Taj Mahal Hotel where the event was organised till further notice. According to a family member of Kanika Kapoor, though she came back to India last week, she developed flu like symptoms during the past 4 days. Kanika said, “I got myself tested and it came positive for Covid-19. My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward. Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway as well.
I was scanned at the airport as per normal procedure 10 days ago when I came back home, the symptoms have developed only four days ago.”
Rajeev Kapoor, Kanika’s father said, “She came to Lucknow on March 11 after spending a day in Mumbai. She was normal when she arrived. In the past two days she had fever and cough and we, as a precaution, got her tested. Today morning we came to know that she is low density positive.”
Mr. Rajeev said Kanika kapoor attended three parties on the 13th, the 14th and the 15th of March with a gathering of 250 to 300 people. After the news broke out, many bank employees and other who were in contact with Ms. Kanika feared to be COVID-19 positive and decided on self isolation.
Some Bollywood celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Sona Mohapatra, and others took to Twitter and criticised Kanika Kapoor with #KanikaCoronaCrime #KanikaCoronaRow #Corona.
