In the wake of the increasing number of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, pune announced 10 days strict lockdown.

The lockdown would be enforced from the 13th of July and would continue till the 23rd of July. 

The decision was taken to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, as the cities witnessed massive spike in cases in the past few days. 

According to sources, only essential services like milk shops, pharmacies, doctors’ clinics and emergency services would be allowed.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Deepak Mhaisekar, the Divisional Commissioner of Pune, said, “A lockdown will be imposed in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and some other areas of the district considering the rise in COVID-19 cases.”

On the 9th of July, Pune reported its highest single day jump of 1,803 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed its overall count to 34,399.

The death count in the district stood at 978 with 34 more people dying of the infection on Thursday, the official said.

Pune is the second worst COVID-19 hit district in Maharashtra after Mumbai.
