Delhi Assembly Elections – Counting Of Votes Underway, AAP Leads In 45 Constituencies

The results of the Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to be announced by the end of the 11th of February.  The counting of votes started around 8:00 A.M., on the 11th of February.

As of now, while the counting of votes for the 70 Assembly seats is underway, trends suggest Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to win the elections.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP are expected to form the State Government for a second term as the Party is leading in 45 Assembly constituencies.

The opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) is leading in 20 constituencies.

In a situation where half of Delhi is protesting against the BJP’s Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, it is predicted the BJP does not stand a chance to win against the AAP.

Believing the trends released by the Election Commission of India (ECI,) the AAP, which is confident of winning, decorated the AAP office to celebrate its victory.

Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, said, “We are confident of a win today because we have worked for people in the last 5 years.”  Later in the day, Arvind Kejriwal, the President of the AAP, is going to address Party workers in Delhi.

On the other hand, a source close to the BJP, who wished to remain anonymous, said even though the trends suggest AAP is going to win the Assembly elections, “wait and keep watching.”

The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections is underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
