On the 30th of November, a Delhi court ordered Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, to appear before the court on the 13th of December.

In its notice, the Court stated, “It is pertinent to note that the accused has not taken bail till date. Accordingly, the matter is adjourned for furnishing bail bonds as well as framing of formal notice under Section 251 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) on the 13th of December.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal for retweeting a video which had content against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Vikas Sankrityayan, the founder of the social media page named ‘I Support Narendra Modi,’ filed the defamation case against Kejriwal for retweeting the video against Mr. Modi.

In his complaint, Mr. Sankrityayan said, “The complainant alleged that the allegations made against him in the video are false, malicious and defamatory. It has lowered the reputation of the complainant in the eyes of right thinking members of the society. So far no proof has been tendered on the allegations.”

Recently, Mr. Kejriwal retweeted a video which had defamatory content against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  In 2018, Dhruv Rathee, a YouTuber, posted the video titled BJP IT Cell Part II.

Sankrityayan said before posting any such video, one should check the authenticity of the content.  However, Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer questioned why Sankrityayan is accusing Kejriwal when the individual who posted the video is not facing any legal action.

After hearing both sides of the argument, the Delhi court adjourned the case and asked Arvind Kejriwal to give a bail bond and appear in the court on the 13th of December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
