On Tuesday, the NIA team arrested another senior separatist leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah. The Democratic Freedom Party is led by Mr. Shah who was arrested from his house in Sanatnagar. Later in the day, Mr. Shah was put under house arrest.
Mr. Shah is the eighth separatist leader to be arrested in the past 36 hours by the NIA. The NIA is probing into the terror funding network in Kashmir and has reported there will be more arrests made in the future.
Reports revealed Shabir Shah suggested that the arrests were politically motivated.
The authorities imposed a curfew in the city to avoid any kind of protests against the arrests made.
During the coming 10 days, the NIA will be questioning all the eight separatists leaders that have been arrested. NIA hopes to get firm evidence that will link Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani directly to terror financing in Kashmir.
Officials have reported that Shabir Shah will be produced in court in Delhi today for his alleged involvement in money laundering.
The officials of the NIA have reported that they are building evidence against the seven separatist leaders. The accused are said to have used the money to fuel civilians to burn schools and pelt stones during protests in Kashmir over the past year.
