French President Emmanuel Macron Visits India

Yesterday, Emmanuel Macron the President of France was received at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. President Macron along with his wife and senior cabinet ministers are on a four day visit to India.

Later that day, PM Modi took to Twitter welcoming President Macron. Modi tweeted, “Welcome to India, President @EmmanuelMacron! Your visit will add great strength to the strategic partnership between India and France. I look forward to our talks tomorrow.”

Today, Macron is set to hold delegation level talks with PM Modi and further have an interactive session with around 300 students from different institutions. Macron plans to boost ties with India especially in the areas of maritime security and counter terrorism. Macron is also expected to sign an agreement on the Jaitapur nuclear power plant in Maharashtra. The nuclear power plant is being built with the assistance of France.

Joint Secretary K. Nagraj Naidu said, “France has particularly supported India’s perspective on terror in South Asia. We are seeing convergence in new areas, particularly maritime security, counter-terrorism and renewable energy.”

On the 11th of March, President Macron will attend the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Summit. The ISA is an initiative mooted by France and India.
