H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, on the 22nd of July, took an appointment to meet Vajubhai Vala, the Governor of Karnataka.

It is suspected H.D. Kumaraswamy will resign today after meeting with the Governor of Karnataka, without the confidence motion, which was supposed to be held on the 22nd of July.

K.R. Ramesh Kumar, who was responsible for conducting the floor test, started the no confidence motion and asked the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to speak and put forth their arguments.

He also urged the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders to conduct the trust vote today, as the Assembly has already missed two deadlines given by Vajubhai Vala.

Vajubhai Vala, on the 20th of July, asked the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S,]) to conduct the no confidence motion by 6:00 P.M., on the 20th of July.

However, Ramesh Kumar, with the argument about the absent lawmakers, shifted the date to the 22nd of July.

Ramesh Kumar said, “I have given my word to conduct floor test today. The coalition leaders have given word to prove majority.”

The confidence motion today, however, did not come to fruition. The INC leaders who filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the MLAs, asked to halt the motion until the hearing.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, a member of the INC, said, “Let us wait for the decision of (the) Supreme Court after the hearing (on Tuesday), and then take the next step. We wanted the rights of every member upheld, but trust vote cannot be conducted in such a manner.”

On the other hand, the BJP blamed the Karnataka Government for delaying the floor test and said the current Government is killing the democracy.

With all this going on, H.D. Kumaraswamy is expected to meet the Governor. However, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) denied reports of Kumaraswamy’s meeting with Vajubhai Vala.

The SC is expected to hear the plea on the 23rd of July, following which, the next step of the JD(S) and the INC will be revealed.

Stay tuned for further updates.
