India’s COVID-19 Cases Cross 47k Single Day Spike, Total Active Cases Surge 3.5 Lakhs

The daily spike of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases are on a continuous rise. In the past 24 hours, India reported 47,262 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus. 

This is the 9th consecutive day that India’s single day spike is more than 40,000.

In addition to 47,262 new cases, the Nation recorded 275 fatalities and 23,907 recoveries. The facts were updated by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 24th of March.

With this, India has 1,17,34,058 positive cases, of which 3,68,457 are active cases, 1,12,05,160 are recovered/discharged cases and 1,60,441 deceased cases.

The updated data is available on the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

In India Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu have reported a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. Close to 80 % of the daily surge has been from the aforementioned states.

Concerned with the rise in COVID-19 cases, the Government of India (GoI) decided to allow COVID-19 vaccination to everyone above 45 years old. The Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, on the 23rd of March said, people above 45 years are now eligible to take shots of COVID-19 vaccine from the 1st of April.

Meanwhile, under the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive, nearly 5,08,41,286 people administered the COVID-19 vaccine doses. These include 79,03,068 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 50,09,252 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 83,33,713 frontline workers (FLWs) (1st dose), 30,60,060 FLWs (2nd dose), 2,12,03,700 beneficiaries above 60 years old and 45,65,369 beneficiaries aged 45 and above with specific comorbidities.
