Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, a Senior Indian Public Service (IPS) officer, is the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI.)
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, on the 25th of May, issued an order and appointed IPS Subodh Kumar Jaiswal.
Mr. Jaiswal would be the CBI Director for a tenure of two years. The appointment was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led three member committee. The other members of the committee were the Chief Justice of India Justice N.V.Ramana and the Indian National Congress (INC) leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary. The panel met at the Prime Minister’s residence for at least 90 minutes on the 24th of May and shortlisted three names. Later, on the 25th of May, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was selected and an official notification was issued.
The post of the CBI Director was lying vacant since the 3rd of February 2021, when Rishi Kumar Shukla completed his tenure. However, Additional Director Praveen Sinha was looking after the affairs of the premier investigation agency as the Interim Chief since then.
Finally, after repeated follow up of the Supreme Court (SC,) the Central Government appointed the new CBI Director. Initially, the committee shortlisted 109 names, of which Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was selected as the new CBI Director.
Highlighting the achievements of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, he is a 1985 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre. Before being appointed as the CBI Director, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was serving as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF.)
In 2018, he also served as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai and also served as the Director General Police (DGP) of Maharashtra. He also headed the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF,) following which he joined the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad.
Subodh Kumar Jaiswal is all set to take charge as the new CBI Director.
