President of Iran Dr. Hassan Rouhani will be in India for three days and will conduct Friday prayers at Hyderabad’s Makkah Masjid. The President is also expected to address Muslim intellectuals, community leaders and clerics in Hyderabad.
This is the second time Rouhani will be visiting Hyderabad. The first time was after he assumed office as President in Iran. Rouhani will also visit a few landmarks in Hyderabad like the Qutub Shahi tombs at Golconda. He will pay his respects to the founders of Hyderabad with Irani lineage.
President Rouhani will also address the Iranians settled in Hyderabad. Around 1,000 Iranians live in Hyderabad since their forefathers migrated from Iran to the City. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited President Rouhani for a visit to India. The two leaders will be discussing several regional developments around the world.
India and Iran have had strained relations after India announced it would reduce the oil imports from Iran. But since then the two countries signed a preliminary agreement to expand Iran’s rail network.
