On Tuesday, the ruling CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front (LDF) leaders from Kerala slammed the Prime Minister for not addressing the catastrophe caused by Cyclone Ockhi in the State.
Cyclone Ockhi created havoc in Tamil Nadu and Kerala leading to a number of casualties. The leaders are questioning why the Prime Minister’s Office was silent during this devastation.
The leaders have a reasonable doubt as the Prime Minister has tweeted about the cyclone only when it was expected to make landfall in his home State Gujarat.
In his tweets, Prime Minister Modi showed concern and asked the BJP Karyakartas to be on their guard as Cyclone Ockhi approached Gujarat.
CPI (M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said, “Instead of declaring Ockhi a national calamity, the PM remained mum all these days on the devastation caused by Ockhi in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There is a clear laxity on his part in personally acknowledging the sufferings of the people of the State. It is for him to say whether he is the PM of the country or the PM of Gujarat.”
BJP state secretary K Surendran responded to the Kerala leader’s criticism against the PM and said, “Why did it take four days for CM Pinarayi Vijayan to visit the affected area which is just 20 km away from his office? Defense Minister Nirmala Sitaraman visited the affected area and coordinated the operations of Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force.”
The Prime Minister has always favored Gujarat over other States. Leaders of the remaining States have noticed this and are questioning PM Modi. But the PM remains quiet about these accusations and continues to rule the country.
