Billal, a Special Police Officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir, was killed and an officer was injured during an encounter between militants and security forces in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir.
The encounter started on the evening of the 20th of August and continued till the early hours of the 21st of August.
The deceased SPO was identified as Billal, whereas the officer who was injured was identified as Amardeep Parihar, a Sub Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Amardeep Parihar was immediately admitted to a nearby military hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The gunfight broke out between the militants and the security forces after the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. During the encounter, the Jammu and Kashmir security forces encountered a militant, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
After the gunfight was over around 5:30 A.M., on the 21st of August, the Jammu and Kashmir Police took to Twitter and posted an update about the encounter.
The tweet read, “Encounter is over. One terrorist killed. Identity being ascertained. Arms and ammunition recovered. Our colleague SPO Billal attained martyrdom. SI Amardeep Parihar injured in the incident is being treated at (an) Army Hospital.”
This is the first encounter after the Government of India scrapped Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and declared it a union territory.
The police cordoned off the area and the search operation is underway.
