The Supreme Court (SC,) is, on the 17th of July, expected to deliver its verdict about the resignation of 15 rebel Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs.)

In the past few days, the State Government has been facing an issue, after approximately 15 MLAs of the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S]) resigned from the Party.

On the 16th of July, the SC heard the plea of the MLAs against K.R. Ramesh Kumar, the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, alleging him of not accepting their resignations and forcing them to attend the Karnataka Assembly session. The SC reserved the verdict for the 17th of July, after hearing the arguments of both the parties.

Mukul Rohatgi, a senior advocate, will represent the rebel MLAs, whereas Abhishek Manu Singhvi, another lawyer, will appear on behalf of Ramesh Kumar.

While Mukul Rohatgi argued Kumar is not accepting the resignations of the MLAs, Abhishek Singhvi said, Ramesh Kumar did not take any decision about the resignations as the members did not submit their resignations in a proper manner.

The case was heard by a three member bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi.

On the other hand, H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, is preparing for the no confidence motion, which is scheduled to be held on the 18th of July.

The Supreme Court will hear the plea for the final verdict on the 17th of July at 10:30 A.M.

Stay tuned for further updates.
