In Karnataka’s Suratkal region, the police imposed section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, after the murder of a 23-year-old man.

According to sources, the youth, whose identity is yet to be known, was hacked to death by an unidentified group of people in Surathkal on the outskirts of Karnataka’s Mangaluru district.  The incident happened on the evening of the 28th of July, Thursday.


Mr. N. Shashi Kumar, the Mangaluru Police Commissioner confirmed the same and released a statement, “At around 8 pm (on July 28), there was an incident where a 23-year-old boy was brutally attacked by 4-5 people near Krishnapura Katipalla road, Surathkal.  He was immediately shifted to a hospital and was declared dead (sic.)”  He further said, “He was attacked with a lethal weapon by a group of youths.  A case has been filed at Surathkal PS. Section 144 CrPC has been imposed at Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe, Panambur.”  Furthermore, all the wine shops in the Surathkal region would remain close on the 29th of July.

The Karnataka Police said, they have registered a case as per the statements of the eye witnesses and launched an investigation.  Furthermore, the brutal murder was reported two days after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Youth worker was hacked to death.   

In addition, the Police Commissioner urged citizens not to believe in any kind of rumours being spread by any group and said, “The motive behind the incident & the identity of the culprits is being investigated… I appeal to all the citizens to not succumb to any rumours being spread by vested interest groups.”

The police also asked not to connect the two recent killings and assured to nab the accused soon.
