A fire broke out inside an eight storey building in the Park Street area of Kolkata, today morning.
The people stuck inside the commercial building of Apeejay House were evacuated immediately. Approximately ten fire trucks reached the spot to stop the fire.
According to sources, the fire erupted at the Apeejay House around 11:00 A.M. The reason behind the fire break is not confirmed yet, but an eyewitness stated the fire started in the server room of one of the offices, situated on the fifth floor.
Apeejay Surrendra Groups’ spokesperson said, “Apeejay House had a fire incident today around 11:10 A.M. The commercial building has a robust fire safety system which kicked in immediately and everyone was evacuated. There were no injuries or casualty. Fire started in the office of Kotak Securities, a tenant with offices on the 5th floor in Block C.”
Sovan Chattopadhyay, the Kolkata Mayor and Fire Service Minister, confirmed the safety of the people and reported no casualties.
To keep the situation under control, traffic police were deployed with the responsibility of preventing vehicles from entering the affected area.
