Maharashtra Government Announces Cabinet Portfolios

The Maharashtra Government announced its Cabinet portfolios on the evening of the 12th of December.

Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, named the ministers and Cabinet portfolios.

Out of all the portfolios, key portfolios like Home, Urban Development, Industry and Technology and Environment were given to the Shiv Sena.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) got the portfolios of Rural Development, Water Resources Ministry, Finance, Housing and Health, Cooperatives and Food and Civil Supplies.

The third ally of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi, the Indian National Congress (INC,) would hold the portfolios of Higher and Technical Education, Revenue, School and Medical Education and Public Works Department.

As of now, Uddhav Thackeray did not keep any portfolio for himself, but assigned some to senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde.  Eknath Shinde would be responsible for the portfolios of Home, Urban Development, Forest, Environment, Water Supply, Irrigation, Tourism, Public Works Department and Parliamentary Affairs.

Chhagan Bhujbal of the INC would be in charge of Rural Development, Water Resources, Social Justice, Excise and Food and Drugs Administration (FDA.)

Balasaheb Thorat of the INC would be in charge of Revenue, Power, Medical Education, School Education, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries.

Subhash Desai of the Shiv Sena would be the Industries and Mining Minister, the Sports and Youth Development Minister, the Agriculture Minister, the Employment Guarantee Minister, the Transportation Minister and the Marathi Languages Minster.

Jayanti Patil of the NCP would be responsible for the Finance, Planning, Housing, Cooperatives and Marketing, Food and Civil Supplies, Labour and Minority Development ministries.

Nitin Raut of the INC would take over as the Minister of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC,) Tribal Development, Women and Children Development, Relief and Rehabilitation and Other Backward Classes (OBC.)
