The tables drastically turned in Maharashtra as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) formed the State Government.

On the 23rd of November, around 8:15 A.M., Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP and Ajit Pawar of the NCP took the oath of office as the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister respectively.

The alliance of the BJP and the NCP came as a shock to many.  On the 22nd of November, the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the Indian National Congress (INC) decided they would ally to form the State Government.  The Shiv Sena-NCP-INC, after their meeting, addressed the media and said Uddhav Thackeray, the President of the Shiv Sena, would become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and lead the Government.  The three parties were also scheduled to meet the Governor of Maharashtra on the 23rd of November.

However, on the 23rd of November, at 7:00 A.M., the BJP and the NCP officially formed an alliance.  The move came as a big surprise, or rather a shock, to the Shiv Sena and the INC, which were to come to power in Maharashtra.

After taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar said the BJP and the NCP came together as the State needed a stable government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, congratulated Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.

Leaders of the NCP and the BJP took to Twitter and congratulated the new CM and Deputy CM.
