Man from Chennai Tries to Recruit for Daesh

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a Chennai based man for cultivating the Islamic State ideology and plotting a conspiracy for terror attacks in Tamil Nadu.

The NIA released a statement that accused Shakul Hameed and eight others for planning terror attacks in the name of Daesh.

The statement read, “The accused people and their associates, with the intention of furthering the activities of the proscribed terrorist organisation Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)/Daesh, had hatched a criminal conspiracy from 2013 onwards and formed a terrorist gang which had raised and received funds, organised meetings, recruited and facilitated the travel of some persons to Syria to join the ISIS/ Daesh.”

NIA reported that the main accused Haja Fakkurudeen a Singaporean of Indian origin joined Daesh in Syria in January 2014. Haja is a native of Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu and visited India in November 2013 and January 2014 and conducted conspiracy meetings with Khaja Moideen, Shakul Hameed and the rest in different places in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The group was on the mission of recruiting for the Daesh.

Shakul Hammed attempted to migrate to Syria in August 2015 but was deported to India after Turkish authorities intercepted him. The police finally arrested him and will produce him at the NIA special court in Chennai.
