The death toll in the Manipur landslide incident rose to 46, with 4 new bodies recovered from the site of the landslide, on the 4th of July.
Occurred at a railway construction site in Manipur’s Noney district, the deceased include 30 Territorial Army soldiers and railway workers. Furthermore, the search operation for the other 17 missing people are underway by the Indian Army, the Assam Rifles, the Territorial Army and the National and State Disaster Response Forces.
Senior Army and disaster management officials are camping at ground zero supervising the rescue and recovery operations in the landslide-devastated mountainous Tupul, where around 80 persons, including Territorial Army personnel, were buried alive after the catastrophic mudslide, which occurred on the 30th of June.
The Defence Spokesperson of the Manipur Police said, they have intensified the search and would continue until all the individuals are rescued or found in the district. Furthermore, on Monday, the district administration cautioned civilians living in downstream areas of the Ijei river to evacuate due to the likelihood of a breach in the dam created on the river by the landslide.
