On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Gurez valley in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Modi made the trip to celebrate Diwali with the troops posted at the LoC.

An Army official reported along with PM Modi, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Northern Command Chief Lt. Gen. Devraj Anbu and Chinar Corps Commander Lt. Gen. J.S. Sandhu also reached Gurez.

The last time Modi celebrated Diwali in Kashmir was in 2014 after the devastating floods that hit the valley.

It has been reported Modi might travel to Mana post at the Indo China border as well.

The officials from the Prime Minister’s office and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) refused to release details of the Prime Minister’s visit but confirmed they were ready to receive Modi in the Kedarnath sector.

This is the first time Modi is visiting the Indo China border after the 73 day long standoff over Doklam.

Narendra Modi will also make a visit to Kedarnath shrine a day after Diwali.

Sources have revealed Modi will not be the only politician spending Diwali with troops. Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has decided to spend Diwali with the troops in Andaman and Nicobar.
