Amit Shah, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) criticised the ‘gathbandhan’ (grand alliance) of the Opposition parties and said, the Country will have a new Prime Minister (PM) everyday.

The Left parties such as the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) the Samajwadi Party (SP,) the All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK,) the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S]) joined hands against the ruling BJP.

Amit Shah, on the 30th of January, addressed the BJP workers in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and said, “We are very clear about our PM, the NDA’s choice is (Narendra) Modi ji. What about you?” He made fun of the grand alliance and said, the leaders of the Parties in the alliance will be the PMs of India.

Speaking about the scenario of the Government if the gathbandhan comes to power, Mr. Shah said, “On Monday, it will be Behenji (BSP chief Mayawati.) On Tuesday, it will be Akhilesh Yadav (SP Chief.) On Wednesday, it will be Mamata didi (Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee). On Thursday, it will be Sharad Pawar (NCP leader.) On Friday it will be Deve Gowda (JD[S] Chief.) On Saturday it will be MK Stalin (AIDMK leader.) And on Sunday, the country will go to sleep (sic.)”

Amit Shah went on with his criticism towards the grand alliance and praised Narendra Modi. He said, “They don’t know who their leader is. This sort of alliance cannot make the country great. Only a person with a 56-inch chest, like Modi ji, can take the country forward.”

Shah mocked the United India Rally, organised by the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress (TMC.) The mega rally at the Brigade Parade Ground, West Bengal witnessed the participation of approximately 23 political parties from across India.

Mr. Shah said, “There were 23 Parties and nine prime ministerial candidates in that rally.”

The BJP is all set to contest the Uttar Pradesh elections, scheduled between April and May 2019. The major parties such as the Indian National Congress (INC,) the grand alliance of the BSP and the SP and the BJP will contest 80 Lok Sabha seats.
