Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, announced an ex gratia for the victims of the Dhanbad Fire Incident.
On the evening of the 31st of January, Tuesday, a massive fire broke out in a residential apartment in the Joraphatak region, in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Getting into the details, the fire broke out around 6:00 P.M., on the second floor of the Ashirwad Tower building. As per the police, at a house on the second floor, a curtain caught fire from the flames of an earthen lamp, which led to a massive fire in the building. The incident killed 14 people including 10 women and three children and left several injured.
Approximately fifteen fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the fire, which caused casualties and property damage.
Speaking about the incident, a victim said, “We were getting ready for my niece’s wedding when we saw smoke entering the room. My brother-in-law told us that a fire has broken out. We were on the fourth floor and tried to go downstairs but felt suffocated due to the smoke so we went to the terrace. Police came and rescued us.”
Meanwhile, upon hearing the incident, Mr. Narendra Modi expressed grief and announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs to the families who lost their kin. In addition, an amount of Rs. 50,000 has been announced for the victims who sustained serious injuries. The money would be given to the victims under the PM Cares Fund.
In addition, Mr. Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand also expressed grief and announced free medical treatment for the victims and also ordered a probe.
