Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Japanese counterpart Mr. Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, Japan, on the 27th of September, Tuesday.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening of India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.  Furthermore, the two leaders had a productive exchange of views on further deepening bilateral relations.  They also discussed a number of regional and global issues,” said the Ministry of External Affairs.

During the bilateral meeting, Mr. Narendra Modi conveyed his deepest condolences for the demise of Shinzo Abe and noted his contributions in strengthening India-Japan partnership as well in conceptualising the vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

It is to be noted, Mr. Narendra Modi visited Japan to attend the state funeral of former Japanese prime minister Mr. Shinzo Abe.  Ahead of the funeral ceremony, Mr. Narendra Modi met with his Japanese counterpart Mr. Fumio Kishida and discussed the bilateral talks.

It is to be noted, Mr. Fumio Kishida visited India for the annual summit in March while Modi visited Japan for the Quad Leaders’ Summit in May. This is the second time the two leaders are meeting and holding bilateral talks.

Meanwhile, representatives from over 100 countries, including more than 20 heads of state and governments, are to attend Shinzo Abe’s funeral on Tuesday, the 27th of September.
