Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 12th of October, started his day by cleaning the Mamallapuram Beach.

Mr. Modi, who is in Mamallapuram, Chennai for an informal summit, took to Twitter and shared a video in which he is seen cleaning the beach by picking plastic bags and other items.

Mr. Modi posted the video with a caption which read, “Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff. Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy! Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy.”

Plogging is derived from Swedish culture and refers to people coming to jog on beaches and picking up plastics and other items to keep the area clean.

The step of Modi, on the 2nd day of his Chennai visit, promotes his Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan agenda and cleanliness in India.

With this video of plogging, Narendra Modi also gave a message to several people and urged them to adopt plogging to take a step towards making India clean.

Many political leaders applauded Modi for his step and assured to follow the same to promote cleanliness in India.

Mr. Modi is scheduled to meet Xi Jinping, the President of China, to conduct bilateral meetings and strengthen the China-India relationship for the growth and development of India.
