PM Modi Reviews COVID-19 Situation In Meeting With CMs, Asks To Work On Cold Storage For Vaccine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 24th of November, held a meeting with the chief ministers of all the states and union territories.

The meeting was scheduled to discuss and to review the ongoing situation due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 in India.

Mr. Modi addressed the chief ministers of all states and chaired the meeting virtually.

During the meeting PM Modi asked the different state governments to start working on cold storage facilities for the COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition, the Indian PM also assured them regarding the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine in “all scientific standards”.

Mr. Modi said, “Safety is as important as speed for us, whichever vaccine India will give to its citizens will be safe on all scientific standards. Vaccine distribution strategy will be chalked out in collective coordination with states. States must also start working cold storage facilities.”

He further added, “Seeing good recovery rates, many think virus is weak & they’ll recover soon, this has led to rampant carelessness… Those working on vaccine are doing it but we need to focus on ensuring that people are alert & transmission is curbed. We’ve to bring positivity rate under 5%. (sic.)”

Mr. Modi also cleared the phased manner of the vaccine distribution.

As per sources, a priority list would be created in three phases where health workers pressed into COVID-19 duty, would be the first to get the vaccine followed by police personnel, sanitation workers and the elderly population.

In the past few months, this is the fifth meeting being held between the PM Modi and chief ministers of Indian states over COVID-19.

India is one of the worst hit nations in terms of maximum number of Coronavirus cases. After the United States of America (U.S.A.,) with nearly 11 million cases, India tops the list with 9.1 million people being infected of COVID-19.
